The Eastern Kentucky University men’s tennis team was defeated 4-2 by Tennessee Tech on Thursday at the Greg Adams Tennis Center in Richmond, Kentucky. This loss brings EKU’s season record to 6-9 and marks their fourth consecutive defeat.
Tennessee Tech, now 2-4 for the season, won the doubles point with victories on courts one and three. The Colonels’ top doubles team lost to Tennessee Tech’s No. 89-ranked duo of Alex Alvarez and Davids Spaks with a score of 6-2. EKU also dropped the match on court three by the same margin.
In singles play, Eastern Kentucky managed to push four out of six matches to three sets. Senior Nuno Pinheiro earned a win at No. 1 singles after defeating Oliver Dao in three sets, 6-4, 6-7, 6-1. Joao Barreto added another point for EKU with a straight-set victory over Diego Munoz at No. 4 singles.
Despite these wins, EKU could not secure victories on courts two, three, and five. On court six, Kartik Parhar led his match before it was left unfinished as Tennessee Tech clinched the overall result.
The Colonels will next compete in a home doubleheader against Furman and Chattanooga on Saturday, with matches starting at 9 a.m. ET.
