The Eastern Kentucky University women’s basketball team will host Utah in the first round of the 2026 Women’s Basketball Invitational Tournament on March 19, following its Atlantic Sun Conference regular season championship, according to a March 15 announcement.
This appearance marks EKU’s sixth national postseason showing and its first berth in the NCAA-owned WBIT since the tournament began in 2024. The Colonels finished their season with a record of 24-8 overall and 15-3 in conference play, tying the program record for victories and achieving three consecutive 20-win seasons under head coach Greg Todd.
Tickets for Thursday’s game at Baptist Health Arena are available for purchase online or at the EKU Ticket Office, with general admission starting at $16.50 and courtside seating at $26. Fans unable to attend can watch live on ESPN+ or listen via Colonels All-Access and @EKUWBB’s X account.
The Colonels earned a program-record ten ASUN postseason honors this year. Todd was named ASUN Coach of the Year, Liz Freihofer received ASUN Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Joseana Vaz was voted ASUN Newcomer of the Year, and Ndidiamaka Ndukwe earned ASUN Sixth Woman of the Year honors. Vaz and Freihofer were both selected as first team all-conference players—the first time since 1998 that two EKU players have achieved this distinction in one season. Freshman Kenleigh Woods was named to the ASUN All-Freshman Team, marking consecutive years with an EKU player on that list.
Despite entering the ASUN Tournament as top seed, EKU lost to Austin Peay in the quarterfinals but secured an automatic WBIT berth by winning the regular season title. The WBIT features a field of thirty-two teams with early rounds played at campus sites before moving to Charles Koch Arena in Wichita, Kansas for semifinals and finals on March 30 and April 1.
Looking ahead, EKU aims to build on its historic season as it competes against Utah in front of a home crowd.
