Eastern Kentucky University senior Fernando Bulnes was named the Atlantic Sun Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, according to an April 7 announcement from the league office. The recognition comes after Bulnes posted two individual victories against No. 14 Illinois last week.

This is the third time this season that an Eastern Kentucky player has received the ASUN Player of the Week honor and marks Bulnes’ second such award during the current campaign.

Bulnes, who is from Badajoz, Spain, went undefeated in three matches last week against Southern Indiana, Bellarmine, and Illinois. He now holds a team-best singles record of 10-7 for the season. In his match against Bellarmine’s Ryan Perkins at No. 3 singles, he won in straight sets with scores of 6-2 and 6-1. He followed up with another straight set win over Illinois’ Hayden Jones at No. 3 singles (6-2, 6-4), and also contributed to a doubles victory alongside his teammate with a score of 6-4 over Illinois’ Jeremy Zhang and Adam Jilly at No. 3 doubles.

Bulnes was selected as Second Team All-ASUN last season and has accumulated a total of 18 combined singles and doubles wins this year. He enters the final week of regular season play on a two-match winning streak.

Eastern Kentucky will conclude its regular season on Friday against conference opponent Lipscomb in Nashville, with first serve scheduled for 11 a.m. ET. Afterward, attention will turn to the upcoming ASUN Men’s Tennis Tournament taking place April 14–18 in Fort Myers, Florida.
