SE Bluegrass News has submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to Eastern Kentucky University. The request seeks detailed information about Chinese National students enrolled at the university. The request was made under the Kentucky Open Records Act § 61.872 et seq., and SE Bluegrass News has asked for the records in electronic format.
The request comprises several specific inquiries:
1. A list or documents detailing all current students who are Chinese Nationals, including their respective departments of study. If student names are protected, a total number of such students broken down by department is requested.
2. Documents or lists showing all current Chinese National students, specifying the amount and source of each scholarship they receive.
3. Information on recipients of scholarships granted by entities affiliated with the Chinese Scholarship Council, unless this data is already included in the previous request.
4. Policies or procedures that describe how the university monitors its students, including Chinese Nationals, to protect intellectual property and other confidential information.
SE Bluegrass News has indicated that this request is part of its efforts to provide transparency and hold public institutions accountable. The organization has also requested a fee waiver, citing its role in gathering and reporting news to the public.
