Molly Davis has joined the Eastern Kentucky University women’s basketball program as an assistant coach, head coach Greg Todd announced on May 7. Davis brings experience from her collegiate playing career at the University of Iowa and Central Michigan University, as well as coaching roles at the University of Evansville.

Davis’s addition is seen as significant for EKU due to her background in championship-level programs and recent coaching success. She served as a graduate assistant and then assistant coach at Evansville, where she helped guide the Purple Aces to a runner-up finish in the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament last season.

“Molly has been part of championship-level culture throughout her career. Playing in two national championship games alongside Caitlin Clark gave her experience very few young coaches can bring to a program,” Todd said. “She understands the elite preparation, player development, toughness and commitment it takes to compete for championships.”

As a player at Iowa from 2022-24, Davis played point guard and helped lead the Hawkeyes to consecutive NCAA National Championship appearances under former head coach Lisa Bluder. During that time, she averaged 5.9 points per game and 3 assists per game while shooting 54 percent from the field over two seasons.

Davis was second on her team with 93 total assists during her senior year in 2023-24 and started in most games that season. Prior to Iowa, she played three seasons at Central Michigan where she earned All-MAC honors three times and posted high scoring averages each year.

“What impressed me most is that Molly has seen the game from multiple perspectives, a championship player, a leader in one of the nation’s premier programs, and now an assistant coach helping guide a team to postseason success,” Todd said. “That combination gives her a bright future in this profession, and we are excited she will continue that journey here at Eastern Kentucky University.”

Davis graduated from Iowa with academic honors after maintaining a high grade-point average throughout college.

Jan Jensen, current University of Iowa Head Coach said: “I am absolutely thrilled for Molly. She is a great young woman first and foremost. And her basketball IQ tremendous… I’m so excited for her next chapter at Eastern Kentucky.” Former Iowa Head Coach Lisa Bluder added: “What a great move by Eastern Kentucky University to hire Molly Davis… A true teammate who is an up-and-comer in the coaching profession.”
