______
HON. ANDY BARR
of kentucky
in the house of representatives
Friday, May 7, 2021
Mr. BARR. Madam Speaker, I rise today to honor Mr. Chester Wilson from Lexington, Kentucky. Mr. Wilson bravely served our nation during World War II. He currently resides at Thomson-Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore, Kentucky. On April 25, Mr. Wilson celebrated his 107th birthday.
Mr. Wilson graduated from Lexington's Bryan Station High School. He was the first member of his family to graduate. At the age of 29, he enlisted in the United States Navy. He served aboard the U.S.S. Benevolence, a Navy hospital ship, in the Pacific Theater. He was a pharmacist mate 3rd class.
After the war, Mr. Wilson worked as a federal agent at bourbon distilleries and later worked for the Treasury Department. He retired in 1974. He and his late wife Margaret have a daughter, Brenda Wilson, a stepson Jack Whitaker, and two grandchildren.
It is my honor to recognize this amazing patriot, celebrate his 107th birthday, and appreciate him for his service and sacrifice to our nation during World War II. As a part of ``The Greatest Generation'', Mr. Wilson was an important part of the war effort to preserve the freedoms that we enjoy today. I am forever grateful for Americans like Chester Wilson.
