Women's Basketball Downs Huntingdon to Remain Unbeaten in Conference Play

The Berea College women's basketball team hosted the Huntingdon College Hawks on Saturday, and the Mountaineers ended the night with a 63-52 victory over the Hawks.

This win puts the Mountaineers at 15-1 overall and 7-0 in conference play. Berea is also on a five-game win streak.

The Mountaineers had three players who scored in double figures. Leading the team was senior Destiny Combs who played 31 minutes and had 13 points, six rebounds, three blocks, and three assists. Right behind Combs was freshman LynKaylah James who had 12 points and eight rebounds.

The Mountaineers started off the contest strong in the first quarter leading 15-3, but the Hawks were able to go on a run and go into half only down by five. The Hawks struggled from behind the arc in the first half going 0-8 from three.

The Mountaineers came out of the half strong and were able to grab a 10-point lead quickly. The Hawks tried there hardest to steal the lead from the Mountaineers, but it came down to who executed the best on offense, and the Mountaineers were able to hit big shots along with getting great stops on defense allowing them to outscore the Hawks 35-29 and end the game with an 11-point win.

The Mountaineers have a quick turnaround as they will host their conference rivals Piedmont University Lions on their home court this Sunday in a CCS contest at 2:00 P.M
