Walker Named ASUN Player Of The Week, Newcomer Of The Week

Eastern Kentucky University women's basketball guard Antwainette Walker has been named the ASUN Conference Player of the Week for this first time this season and the ASUN Newcomer of the Week for the third time, announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.

Walker is EKU's first ASUN Player of the Week and third Newcomer of the Week selection in the Colonels' two-year time period as an institutional member of the conference.

Antwainette, who was tabbed to the 2023 Ann Meyers Drysdale Award Mid-Season Top 10 list by the National Basketball Hall of Fame and the 2023 Dawn Staley Award Late Season Watch List, averaged 28.0 points and 9.5 rebounds per game while shooting 50 percent from the floor (19-of-38) for the Colonels last week.

The Lisle. Ill. product scored 28 points against Queens and Liberty on the road, for a total of 56 points in the two-game stretch. Antwainette's 28 points at Liberty set the Liberty Arena single game scoring record.

She also brought down 6 and 13 rebounds, respectively, for her 14th double-double of the season.

With her nine made shots against Liberty, Walker set a new single season program record 238 field goals on the year and counting, passing EKU legend Peggy Gay. With 591 points on the season, Walker needs 42 points to move into second in program history in single season points.

Walker continues to climb the ASUN single season records sitting 13th in field goals (238), 15th in points (591), and 19th in points per game (21.1) in conference history.

As of Monday, Feb. 27, Walker top-20 in the NCAA in double-doubles, field goals, points, and points per game. She leads the ASUN in over 10 statistical categories.

EKU (17-13, 10-7ASUN) concludes the regular season on Wednesday, March 1 at North Florida, a team who the Colonels beat by 20 points at home on Jan. 22, 2023.

The Colonels have sole possession of fifth place in the ASUN standings, clinching a placement in the 2023 ASUN Women's Basketball Championship from March 4-11. EKU awaits its destination in the tournament at the conclusion of Wednesday's conference games.
