EKU Defeats Alice Lloyd 110-49 in Historic Day at Alumni Coliseum
With 16 points, 13 rebounds, and 10 assists, graduate Danielle Rainey notched the first triple-double in program history to lead the Colonels to a 110-49 victory over Alice Lloyd College on Thursday afternoon inside Baptist Health Arena.
With the win, EKU concludes non-conference play with a 7-6 (.538) record and shifts focus to ASUN Conference play beginning on January 2 at home against Kennesaw State.
Alongside Rainey, Antwainette Walker tallied a team-leading 28 points on 14-of-20 (.700) shooting from the floor. The Lisle, Ill. native also brough down seven rebounds, dished out four assists, and picked four steals.
Marissa Mackins recorded 18 points on 6-of-13 (.461) from beyond the arch, she has recorded double-figure scoring in all five of her games this season.
Kalissa Lacy scored 16 points in the win and Abbey Morton recorded a career-high 11 points on 5-of-7 (.714) shooting in nine minutes of action.
The Colonels jumped out to a 10-0 run at the hands of Walker, who scored the first five baskets of the contest. EKU extended its lead to nine with a 17-8 lead heading to the first quarter media timeout. Two Mackins three-pointers closed out the frame with the Colonels up 31-16.
A three from Emma Hacker opened the second quarter for the Colonels. EKU went to halftime on a 26-6 run thanks to two three-pointers by Lacy and the score at 59-27.
Walker scored on three of four possessions for EKU to begin the second half and extend the lead to 40 over Alice Lloyd. The Colonels next four possessions results four in made threes by Mackins and Alice Recanati. Kayra Freeman knocked down a buzzer beater from beyond the arch to conclude the third frame and extend the Colonel lead to 54.
Morton earned the majority of her 11 points to open the fourth quarter, scoring seven points on three possessions to push the EKU lead to 57. The Colonels ended the quarter with two more layups by Morton to conclude non-conference play at 7-6 and consecutive 100-point victories.
EKU will return to practice over the weekend to prepare to host Kennesaw State and Stetson to begin ASUN play, starting on Monday, January 2 at 7:00 p.m. ET against the Owls and Thursday, January 5 against the Hatters at 7:00 p.m. ET.
