Baseball Falls on the Road to Sewanee
The Berea College baseball team dropped their second consecutive game, falling 11-4 to the Sewanee Tigers on Wednesday afternoon.
The Mountaineers are now 3-10 overall. Berea recorded seven hits, of which, four were for extra bases.
After a scoreless first inning, the Mountaineers scored the first run of the contest in the top of the second, as sophomore Alejandro Avila knocked an RBI single to bring home sophomore Zion Clay. The lead was short-lived, however, as the Lions scored five unanswered runs over the next three innings to hold a 5-1 lead at the end of five innings.
Berea chipped into the deficit in the top of the sixth after sophomore Jayden Junta got on base with a single. Clay followed with a two-run home run to right field as Berea trailed 5-3 exiting the inning. Sewanee expanded their advantage in the bottom of the seventh, as three runners crossed home plate. Sophomore Talon Yates earned an RBI groundout in the eighth inning for Berea's last run of the game, but the Mountaineers eventually fell 11-4 with a three-run eighth inning by the Tigers.
The Berea College baseball team wraps up their stretch of road games this weekend, traveling to face Manchester University. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. in Westfield, Ind.
